A couple of my sisters and their families were helping my mom clean out the garage today, and they came across a little something from my creative (albeit emotionally jumbled) past. :)
Perhaps you have a teen like me. (If so, you need lots of prayers!!) I only vaguely remember writing this, but when my niece Annie read it to me over the phone today, it made me all weepy. (I'm so sentimental I even make myself cry!)
So here it is: an original, never-before-published, genuine Eileen. :)
A Poem:
From a Seventeen Year-Old Girl to Her Father
I don't say it much (it's a little bit hard),
But I want you to know that it's true. . .
What I'm trying to say in my own little way
I Dad, I ... um ... I (!)
I don't understand why it's so hard to say
What I feel deep inside for you
I hope that you know without my telling you so,
But Dad, I ... (!)
I could do little things, like wash to the two cars,
As a way for me to show it;
And you can bet that I will, although, even still,
If I say it I'll be sure that you know it ...
I guess I'm being silly. To say just three little words
shouldn't be so difficult to do ...
So on this Father's Day, I'll get up the "nerve" to say
Dad,
"I LOVE YOU!"
OK, you made me cry too!

How wonderful for your family to find something so sweet and read it again years later. Did someone stick somewhere new so it can be found again? :)

Ohhh, this is wonderful. What a sweet teen daughter you were. What a lucky Dad you had.
