Junie B. turns 9 on Monday! So on Saturday she (finally!) had her first birthday party. (Junie gets sick every single September, like clockwork. We've canceled party plans more than once because of it. Happily, this year, she got it out of the way early.)
The weather couldn't have been nicer for an outdoor birthday -- bright sunshine, mid-seventies.
Nine sweet, skipping, hand-holding little girls played together for three hours, making paper dolls, roasting hot dogs and trying their hands at Tacos in a Bag, eating s'mores and scarfing cake and ice cream. They popped each other's balloons, ran around the pond, learned what poison ivy looks like (hopefully not the hard way!!), had a treasure hunt to find their "goodie bags," and generally had a lot of fun. Three hours have never passed so quickly!
Step 2 was the perfect runner and all-around behind the scenes person -- I don't know what I would have done without her! The Chief and the boys set up the pond area and had a perfect campfire going just in time for lunch. Junie B. was a delightful hostess, introducing the girls to each other and drawing them into the fun.
Two of my dearest friends (that I don't see nearly enough!) came with their little girls, and stayed for the whole party ... and several hours afterward, too! We were delighted that my parents were also able to come -- they stayed to enjoy the ND game afterward. We did our best to eke out a win for them, but what can I say ... I don't play football very well, either. :) Just joking!!!
All-in-all, a wonderful day.
On to the next big thing ...
