Wednesday: Setting up the Christmas Tree
Yes, it's fake. But that's because this is on the other side of the room:
Thursday: Spin Art Fun
Glitter and glue work surprisingly well in this little machine -- we got some pretty cool -- and Christmas-y! -- effects with it!
Friday: Blessing the Creche
This is fun! The statues are all wrapped individually in tissue from last year; the children take turns reaching into the box to pull out a statue and open it for all to see. Then I read the Christmas story from Vos' Children's Picture Bible (what a simple and beautiful presentation of the story, by the way), and when the children hear their figures mentioned, they put them in the stable. We sing Silent Night, then The Chief blesses the creche with Holy Water, reading a prayer my mom had taped to the inside cover of the box when she gave me the set for Christmas many years ago. We follow that with a rousing chorus of Gloria! from "Angels We Have Heard on High" and then place the creche in its honored position atop the entertainment center.
Saturday: Decorating the Tree!
(Red Balls First! That's the rule!) ;)
The Angel Treetopper is new this year -- in the past, we've just topped the tree with a cute little clothespin angel Step One made in 4th grade. I still love that sweet angel (not to mention its creator!), so it's gracing the tree just below the "official" angel. :)
