Two years ago, we found a nesting Canada Goose pair back by our pond -- especially exciting because no geese (or ducks or anything else, to our knowledge) had ever chosen our pond for such an honor before! We headed back to the pond almost daily, hoping to catch a glimpse of the fluffly little goslings, but we never saw them, and by the end of May, the pair was gone. We never knew for sure if the eggs hatched or if some tragedy befell the family, or if they just relocated after the goslings were old enough to travel.
Last year, we saw the daddy goose (we assumed), but never saw a nest or his partner. When the daddy goose came back this year, we again were hopeful, but saw no sign of his mate.
